Student & Young Adult Ministry
Westminster Presbyterian Church is proud of its history and connection to The College of Wooster as the Congregation-in-Residence. A number of cherished traditions on the College's campus began at Westminster, including Soup & Bread.
In recent years, Westminster has worked closely with the different departments in Student Affairs, including the Center for Diversity & Inclusion (CDI) and its various branches, to meet the needs of college students. Our collaborations with faculty, staff, and student groups allow us to engage with a number social justice issues and civic concerns that reflect our values to support, encourage, and develop student leadership in the church and the world. We are thankful for the ways in which Westminster can be visible and active in the lives of young adults and college students!
Below is a brief list of some of the ways Westminster is committed to student and young adult leadership and spiritual formation:
-Supporting the UKirk Wooster campus ministry group, a progressive and ecumenical ministry with College of Wooster students.
-Supporting Fall and Spring Break trips facilitated with the Center for Diversity & Inclusion and its Religious & Spiritual Life branch.
-Hosting the Wooster Ecumenical Group Bible Study (a student-led Bible study meeting Wednesdays at 7pm in The Lounge).
-Hosting the Vegan Potluck open to all College of Wooster students and community members.
-Opportunities for leadership in Worship on Sunday mornings; including, serving Communion, reading Scripture, and/or offering reflections or sermons.
-Mentorship and relationship-building with older adults and community members.
-Employing student interns or sponsoring post-graduation service years, such as the Young Adult Volunteer (YAV) program.
-Collecting offerings (such as the Pentecost Special Offering) to support the work of the Presbyterian Mission Agency and its goals assisting local at-risk youth, emerging leaders, and the YAV program.
We are excited to continue growing in our relationships with students, faculty, and staff and our presence on the college campus. If you have questions about ministry with young adults and college students or would like to get involved, contact our Director of Student Ministries, Erin Guzmán.
