Holy Week and Easter Services
Palm Sunday - April 14th
Worship at 10:45am in Mackey Hall, Fellowship time to follow.
In worship we will be joined by the Gomes Choir, who makes an annual visit to Westminster each year to share their musical gifts with the wider community.
Erin Guzmán, Director of Student Ministries, will deliver the message.
Maundy Thursday - April 18th
Join us for a meditative, Taizé-style worship service in Mackey Hall.
There will be a soup potluck at 6:15pm in The Meeting Place (lower level of Westminster), and the service will follow at 7pm in Mackey Hall.
Communion will be celebrated at this service.
Maundy Thursday of Holy Week is the day when we remember the Last Supper, Jesus praying in the Garden of Gethsemane, the betrayal of Jesus by Judas, and Jesus' arrest. From there, Jesus was crucified (on Friday), buried in the tomb, and remained there under guard until Sunday morning, when the tomb was discovered to be empty. Maundy Thursday reminds us that the path of justice reconciliation, and wholeness leads us through uncomfortable places. We hope you will join us for the meal and worship together.
Good Friday - April 19th
Several churches in the Wooster-area will hold an Ecumenical Good Friday Public Witness Service on Friday, April 19th, at 4pm. All are welcome to come and participate. We will gather by the south side of Market Square by the Children's Monument.
Part of the power of the Good Friday story is that the state-sanctioned power and violence which existed in Jesus' time has not gone away... Instead, they have evolved into the forms we know today, seen all over the world and in our communities. Public witness, guided by our faith traditions, means that we make intentional space to call-out this violence and sin, and begin to make steps to repair that brokenness. Reflecting on the Good Friday story in this way helps us draw connections between this "ancient" story and our own, contemporary one. We hope you will join us and other congregations from our community in a spirit of prayer, repentance, and reflection on Good Friday this year.
